Many individuals and their families that we support have been affected by the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Florence. In the wake of the disaster, The Arc of North Carolina has gathered some resources that can assist you through this time of loss and need. If you or someone you know have been affected by this tragic event, start here or share this page with someone who needs these resources.

Disaster Assistance

If you have damage or loss from Hurricane Florence, you may complete a FEMA application now even if your county has not been federally declared for Individual Assistance. This will help speed up the process if counties are added to a declaration. Your application will be processed if your county is added to a declaration and FEMA determines you are eligible.

Food Assistance for Disaster Relief

On September 16, 2018, FNS approved the North Carolina request for timely household reporting of food loss for the State of North Carolina. This waiver approval will allow households to make a request for replacement of SNAP benefits through October 15, 2018. These replacement SNAP benefits will allow households to replace food lost as a result of Hurricane Florence.

Ready NC

Ready NC: Individual Assistance

In some disasters, people can get financial help in the form of low-interest loans or grants. These can help renters and homeowners get back on their feet. The funds can be used only for certain things, such as replacing essential personal belongings, fixing vehicles, paying for disaster-related medical costs, and fixing or rebuilding homes.

Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) Locator

FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) are accessible facilities and mobile offices you can visit to learn more about FEMA and other disaster assistance programs. You may also visit to ask questions about your case. DRCs are set up in convenient areas after a disaster to make them easier to find. The DRC Locator helps you find the hours, services, and locations of DRCs near you.
