What’s Happening at The Arc of North Carolina
Welcome to 2023! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break. Staff at The Arc of North Carolina hit the ground running with several projects.
We want to make sure you are in the loop with the latest information, so here are some updates.
Breaking News from The Arc of the United States:
- On January 26th, The Arc of the United States announced that their longtime Chief Executive Officer, Peter Berns, is leaving his position in February 2023.The Arc issued a statement which read, in part, that under his leadership, the organization has charted an ambitious path of growth and modernization as it carries out its mission of “promoting and protecting the human rights of people with IDD and actively supporting their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes." - Due to unforeseen problems with the event venue, the Disability Policy Seminar will not be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC on March 20-22, 2023. It's important to note that the event has not been cancelled. The event organizers are reviewing their options and hope to put together a new plan so that the event can be held in 2023 at a later date. The North Carolina General Assembly “long session” has begun! Legislators from across the state have gathered in Raleigh to begin working on many issues facing our state. We are working closely with legislators to address critical problems affecting people with IDD and their families. Our legislative agenda is focused on workforce development, the direct support professional crisis, guardianship, and the North Carolina Innovations Waiver. During this session, we will advocate for workforce development, solutions for the direct support professional crisis, and guardianship. We will be keeping you updated and asking for your support through our Action Alerts and social media posts.
