Kerri Eaker

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Kerri Eaker. She was a fierce advocate and worked for many years to assure the rights and freedoms for people with disabilities. Kerri worked with several organizations serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and chaired the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities.

Kerri was instrumental in launching a regional transition fair in western North Carolina for people with I/DD. Interested families came from across North Carolina to access this critical program.

As part of the planning team for NC Family Support ECHO and its expansion into Western NC, Kerri played a significant role in the success of the program. She worked hard for family support to be available to families who had a loved one with I/DD.

Duncan Reid, Director of Development at The Arc of NC, worked with Kerri for several years. “First and foremost, she was a parent and then a parent advocate,” said Duncan. “No matter the context, she always brought the parent and family perspective to every advocacy opportunity.”

The Arc of North Carolina is honored to have been chosen to receive memorial donations in Kerri’s name. We will continue to serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and fight for their rights to live as they choose.
