Advocacy Update: Disability Policy Seminar 2025

The Arc of NC’s advocacy team is working hard for you, and we want to provide regular updates, so you know about our work in the IDD space in North Carolina.
State Update: The North Carolina Senate released their 2025 budget proposal. We are in the process of reviewing it for specific items that will help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). One of the items highlighted is additional funding for ApprenticeshipNC. The funding would be used to help individuals with I/DD receive training for job opportunities.
Federal Update: We continue to watch the budget process and Medicaid. We are working with NC representatives and senators in Congress to help them understand the importance of Medicaid for people with IDD. In an attempt to keep people informed, we’ve amended our Medicaid webpage and will keep it current. Please check it out here: https://www.arcnc.org/resources/medicaid-updates-in-2025
Advocacy Update:
- Our staff just returned from Washington, DC. We met with several staff from our NC reps and senators. We conveyed many messages during our meetings, but the biggest ask was for each representative and senator to protect Medicaid from cuts. Many Medicaid programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities rely on Medicaid funding.
We also had two Moms, Pam and Linda, join us for meetings. They spoke about the need to keep Medicaid services intact. Advocacy is critical, especially from parents and caregivers of individuals with IDD. Check out our Facebook post featuring Linda.
Members of our NC contingent also attended a Protect Medicaid rally on Capitol Hill.
