Welcome to 2020; A note from our Executive Director, John Nash.

Dear Friends,

Welcome to 2020; it is a new year, and a new decade! This is a great time for us to take stock and look to the future. I am confident that this will be a successful year with many achievements. Over the past year, we have weathered some tough times, but I’m proud of our staff, the people we serve, and the community that supports The Arc of North Carolina for rising to the challenge and pushing forward.

2019 was quite a year for The Arc of North Carolina. We are grateful for the many successes that we have had over the past year. As always, our staff continues to work hard advocating for the individuals and families that we serve.

Our leadership team has been meeting with state and federal legislators and attending committee meetings to ensure that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities continue to have access to critical supports and services such as housing in group homes.

We’ve led and participated in several events, including a breakfast for legislators, our biggest Rooted in Advocacy conference to date, and the Disability Policy Seminar in Washington, DC. We’ve welcomed several new staff and members of the Board of Directors.

2020 is not only an election year, but it is the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. We look forward to celebrating the anniversary and continue to work hard to ensure that the issues and accomplishments of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families are well-publicized.

We are grateful for your continued support. As I have always said, we cannot do our job without the help of the people and communities of this great state. The Arc continues to be on the front lines to ensure that individuals with intellectual/ developmental disabilities and their families have the support and services they need to be fully engaged in their communities.
