Hurricane Florence Relief

Posted by The Arc of North Carolina

Now that Hurricane Florence has left North Carolina, the tedious process of cleaning up and assessing property damage begins. The staff of The Arc of North Carolina has established a response team to determine the needs in each region that we serve. We are learning of tremendous devastation and upheaval in Wilmington and the surrounding areas from our staff and the individuals and families we support.

Some self-advocates have been displaced and are now looking for a new long-term housing option, as their housing units have been condemned. Others have not (and will not) be able to work at their place of employment because they have no transportation or the place that they work has remained closed. We have staff of our own who are displaced and have their own individual needs.

We are asking you to consider a contribution to the Hurricane Florence Relief Fund for The Arc of North Carolina. Our organization accepts donations and will use these designated funds to provide a variety of supports and services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families who have been affected by Hurricane Florence.

The Arc of North Carolina is committed to long-term supports for people with I/DD. Because we have so many people across the state who have unique physical and mental health needs and now are dealing with enormous damage because of this natural disaster, we are asking you to consider making a tax-deductible financial contribution so that we can immediately help those in need.

We will use funds for both emergency needs of the people we support as well as personnel who have critical needs themselves and must to be able to get back to work supporting people with I/DD.

Any amount you decide to donate will be appreciated and will make a difference for our neighbors who need assistance or whose lives have been upended. We accept large and small donations, and we can help you set up a monthly recurring donation as well. If you can commit to a recurring gift, you will help ensure ongoing, long-term assistance to people and families with I/DD who need it.

Please consider making your gift using a secure link via our website at or with a check. We accept all major credit cards. You may send your check to: The Arc of North Carolina, 343 East Six Forks Road, Suite 320, Raleigh, NC 27609.

In times of need, we know that people will come together to help those who don’t have what they need to get back on their feet and back to their daily lives. We hope that you will consider a donation to The Arc of North Carolina so that we may help people continue to work and live in the communities they love.
