Wings for AutismĀ® is Coming to Raleigh!

Wings for Autism® is coming to Raleigh! The Arc of North Carolina and The Arc of the Triangle are partnering with the Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Allegiant Airlines to host the Wings event on August 19th. This will be the first time that this event has been in Raleigh.

Wings for Autism® allows families with children with intellectual or developmental disabilities to “practice” going to the airport and getting on a plane. Families will have the ability to check in at a ticket desk, go through the airport security checkpoint, walk to the airline gate, and board an airplane.

For many families, this event can change lives. Many have never traveled by air for fear of not knowing how their loved one with an intellectual or developmental disability would respond. Those that have been to the airport and traveled by plane understand that it can be an unnerving experience – large crowds of people, unfamiliar sounds and an unknown setting can be enough to cause a meltdown. Wings for Autism® allows families to gain a better understanding of how to best prepare for air travel.

If you are interested in participating in this event, registration will begin at the end of June. It will be a “first come-first serve” process and seats are limited. Keep checking our web site and social media accounts for updates on how you can participate!
